VOLUNTEER

We are actively recruiting new members for all services offered by the Fire Department. We are a 100% volunteer agency comprised of approximately 60 active members. We are the busiest fire department in Battalion 1 (Northwestern Dutchess County) with an average of over 1,150 combined fire and EMS calls per year. All training and equipment is provided by the department at no cost to the member.

Positions

Ambulance Operator

Main Functions
Drives ambulance in emergency mode to scene and to hospital.
Assists medical crew with lifting, loading and unloading patient in ambulance.
Obtains equipment and supplies for medical crew.
Minimum Training
Member Orientation: 6 hours
CPR & First Aid Training: 10 hours
OSHA training: 16 hours
Hazardous Material Training: 15 hours
Ambulance driving practice: 6-15 hours
EVOC: 16 hours
Ambulance attendant training: 2 hours

Exterior Firefighter

Main Functions
Performs fire scene operations outside of structures.
Places water on fire from outside of house, connects hoses to hydrants.
Can perform rescue operations with additional training.
Oftentimes less dangerous than interior firefighting.
Minimum Training
Member Orientation: 6 hours
Hazardous Material Training: 15 hours
CPR & First Aid: 10 hours
OSHA Training: 16 hours
Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations (BEFO): 40 hours
EVOC (if apparatus driver): 16 hours
Pump Ops (if apparatus driver): 24 hours
Driving and Pump Practice: 10 hours

Interior Firefighter

Main Functions
Performs all functions of a firefighter including fire extinguishment, interior search, vehicle rescue,
and rope rescue.
Some firefighters also perform roof operations such as ventilation.
Minimum Training
Member Orientation: 6 hours
Hazardous Material Training: 15 hours
CPR & First Aid: 10 hours
OSHA Training: 16 Hours
Firefighter I course: 106 hours

Fire Police

Main Functions
Ensures a safe scene for firefighters and medical personnel by controlling traffic.
Members often respond directly to the station or the scene when necessary.
Minimum Training
Member Orientation: 6 hours
Hazardous Material Training: 15 hours
CPR & First Aid: 10 hours
OSHA Training: 16 hours
Fire Police Training Course: 9 hours

Emergency Medical Technician

Main Functions
Provides direct medical care to patients.
Transports patients to hospital.
Minimum Training
Member Orientation: 6 hours
E.M.T. certification course (includes CPR): 144 hours
OSHA Training: 16 hours
Hazardous Material Training: 15 hoursAmbulance attendant training: 2 hours
Additional Benefits
The Fire Department also offers a $1,000 dollar scholarship program for younger members wanting to attend college.
